Tell us about your business?
Solastech in now the largest provider of domestic and commercial insulation in Munster. Solastech is registered with Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and is a registered contractor for the Home Energy Saving (HES) Scheme. We are also approved by the Irish Agreement Board (IAB) to carry out internal, external better energy wall and attic insulation.
Our mission is to dramatically improve Ireland’s environmental performance and attitude, one home at a time.
To achieve this goal we have brought together a wide range of better energy services that clients can avail of to gradually eliminate energy waste in their homes. From our initial meeting with a client it is our aim to foster a long term relationship that will deliver dramatic environmental change to their home over a period of time that is affordable and achievable. We do not believe in a hard and fast approach to selling our services.
The level of environmental change that is required in Ireland can only be achieved through a long term partnership between home and business owners and companies like ourselves coupled with long term government commitment to the environment. At Solastech in an effort to hold up our end of the bargain, will always operate in a highly professional manner with our clients’ and our environments’ best interests at the forefront of our motivation.
When and why did you decide to start your business?
With the current state of the national housing stock, rising fuel costs and having researched foreign markets and their approach to energy efficiency I saw great potential in the Irish market for providing a quality service in the energy sector. In 2008 I decided to take take the leap, and I have never looked back.
What’s it like to do business in Fermoy?
Fermoy is a great place to work and we get great support from the local community. I grew up in Fermoy and I am very proud to have my company based in the town.
What would you change about the town?
I would like to see people more focused on positives. There are many companies doing well in Fermoy. I would invite the Avondhu to call me anytime and I will gladly give them a good news story as would many other businesses that i know of in the town. It is tough, but hard work is paying off. Fermoy has to shake itself out of this negative train of thought, we can achieve great things. There are great amienities here and need to put them to better use, the park, the river, the youth centre, we have a lot going for us.
What advice would you give to anyone starting a business?
Its a hard slog, do your research and be prepared to work very, very hard. Customer service is priority number one, go the extra mile and be honest in all your dealings.
